The coup attempt involved a brazen attack on Sierra Leone's key armory and a prison, resulting in the escape of over 2,000 inmates.
More than 50 suspects have been arrested in connection with the coup attempt, including military officers and Amadu Koita, a former security guard for Koroma.
Koroma has agreed to cooperate with the police investigation and has urged his supporters to remain calm.
There have been ongoing political tensions in Sierra Leone since President Julius Maada Bio was re-elected for a second term in a disputed vote in June.
