  • Former Sen. Bob Menendez surrendered on Tuesday to Federal Correctional Institution Schuylkill in Pennsylvania to begin serving an 11-year term for bribery and corruption.
  • A July 2024 jury found him guilty of accepting gold bars, cash and a luxury car in exchange for political favors benefiting New Jersey businessmen and the governments of Egypt and Qatar.
  • Prosecutors said he leveraged his role as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to influence U.S. military aid and obstruct investigations for co-conspirators.
  • Last week a federal appeals court denied his final request for bail pending appeal of 16 counts including extortion, obstruction and foreign agent charges.
  • His wife, Nadine Menendez, was convicted in April for acting as a go-between in the scheme and is scheduled to be sentenced on September 11.
