Former Sanger ISD Officer Arrested on Felony Charges Over Alleged Student Relationship

The Jan. 14 booking followed a Criminal Investigation Division probe launched after a November report to Sanger police.

Overview

  • Sanger police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Israel Demello of Denton, who was arrested Jan. 14 and booked into the Denton County Jail.
  • Demello faces charges of improper relationship between educator and student, sexual assault of a child, sexual performance by a child, and indecency with a child by sexual contact.
  • Authorities say the investigation began in November, when the alleged relationship was reported, and Sanger ISD placed Demello on administrative leave at that time.
  • Arrest warrants were issued by the Denton County Magistrate’s Court following the Sanger Police Department Criminal Investigation Division’s inquiry.
  • Police have not released the student’s identity or the alleged timeline and are seeking tips at 940-458-7444 or CID@sangertexas.org.
