Former RCMP Officer Charged With Aggravated Assault Over 2019 Eckville Shooting

Following ASIRT’s approval of charges, Erickson has his first court date in Red Deer on August 28.

  • On July 28, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team charged retired RCMP officer Geordie Erickson with one count of aggravated assault in connection with the 2019 Eckville shooting.
  • ASIRT’s investigation concluded there were reasonable grounds for prosecution and the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service approved the charge.
  • Erickson was released on an appearance notice and will appear at Red Deer’s Court of Justice on August 28.
