Former Partner Charged With Murder of Crystal Beale in Brisbane River Case

Police say a months-long inquiry, including a Maudsland search warrant, led to domestic-violence-related charges.

Overview

  • Detectives arrested a 49-year-old former partner during a 5:11am search at an Equestrian Drive address in Maudsland and charged him with murder and misconduct with a corpse.
  • The murder charge is recorded as a domestic violence offence, and police allege there is a history of domestic violence.
  • The matter was mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court and adjourned to next month at the request of the defendant’s solicitor.
  • Investigators reviewed more than 1,000 hours of CCTV under Operation Xray Saba and appealed repeatedly for public assistance, also recovering items including a sandal and belongings near Orleigh Park.
  • Beale, 49, was found in the Brisbane River near Yeronga Reach on February 22 after initially being reported as a non-suspicious death, which was later reclassified as a homicide following a post-mortem.
