Brittany Commisso Files Lawsuit Under Expiring Adult Survivors Act, Alleging Unwanted Advances and Retaliation

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is being sued by his former executive assistant, Brittany Commisso, for alleged sexual harassment and retaliation. The lawsuit was filed under the state's Adult Survivors Act, which allows victims of sexual abuse to sue their alleged abusers, even if the statute of limitations has expired. The act was set to expire on November 24, 2023.
Commisso alleges that Cuomo subjected her to 'humiliating and demeaning tasks, hugs, kisses, sexual touching of the buttocks and forcible touching of the breast.' She also claims she faced professional retaliation, including being reassigned to the 'demeaning task of answering telephones in the lieutenant governor’s office.'
Cuomo's attorney, Rita Glavin, has denied the allegations, calling them 'provably false' and describing the lawsuit as a 'transparent attempt at a cash grab.'
Commisso's allegations were among those that led to Cuomo's resignation as governor in August 2021. However, a criminal charge related to her allegations was dismissed in 2022.
The lawsuit comes as Cuomo is reportedly considering a return to public office, a move Commisso has publicly criticized.
