Former NJ Police Officer and Volunteer Fire Company President Arrested in Florida on Sexual Misconduct Charges

The charges follow a state investigation into allegations he exploited “training” scenarios to restrain firefighters for nonconsensual contact.

Overview

  • He faces four counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact and one count of second-degree official misconduct filed by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
  • Prosecutors allege that in 2022–2023 he isolated firefighters at the firehouse, his Toms River home, or other sites, handcuffed or restrained them under the guise of training, and in some cases took photographs.
  • Cape Coral police arrested him on Dec. 4 and took him to the Lee County Jail to await extradition to New Jersey; officials said a SWAT team made the arrest and executed searches of his home, person, and car.
  • The 52-year-old previously led the Silverton Volunteer Fire Company from 2017 to 2021 and retired from the Island Heights Police Department in February 2021 after 23 years.
  • A 95-page civil lawsuit filed in March by three volunteer firefighters alleges a long-running pattern of abuse and leadership inaction, and the fire company has issued a statement distancing its values from the reported misconduct.
