Chance Comanche and Sakari Harnden pleaded not guilty to charges of murdering and kidnapping Washington state woman Marayna Rodgers in Las Vegas.
The pair allegedly used a cord to strangle Rodgers, after luring her under the guise of a prostitution deal.
Comanche had previously confessed to the crime and led police to Rodgers' body, but both he and Harnden now contest the charges.
The state announced it will not seek the death penalty for Comanche or Harnden, setting the stage for a trial.
Comanche, a former player for the Stockton Kings, and Harnden will be tried together, with their next court appearance scheduled for April 3.
