  • Former MMA fighter Javier Baez was attacked by Omar Marrero, a knife-wielding man, while Baez was in his car in a parking lot. Despite Marrero having a 14-inch knife, Baez managed to subdue him with a body slam and chokehold.
  • Baez told reporters that he relied on his 15 years of professional MMA training to defend himself. He attributed his success in defusing the situation to staying calm, keeping his balance and maintaining his composure.
  • The incident began when Marrero reportedly broke the window of Baez's car. Despite Baez's warning that he was going to call the police, Marrero brandished his knife, forcing Baez to step out and confront him.
  • During the altercation, Baez lifted Marrero and slammed him to the ground. He then disarmed Marrero and used a chokehold to make him pass out. Baez held him down with his knee on his back until the police arrived.
  • Following the incident, Baez has received several offers for personal and self-defense training due to the video of the incident going viral. Meanwhile, Marrero was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated battery.
