Former Mets outfielder Joe Christopher dies at 88

  • He had his best season with the Mets in 1964, leading the team in RBIs and finishing 16th in the National League.
  • Christopher batted .300 with 16 home runs and 76 RBIs for the Mets in 1964.
  • He is credited with helping teammates learn Spanish phrases which inspired the band name Yo La Tengo.
  • Christopher died this week at the age of 88 after playing for the Mets from 1962-1965.
