Craig Carter, a former Metropolitan Police officer, was sentenced to 16 months in prison for stealing money from a deceased man's wallet.
Carter admitted to taking £115 from Claudio Gaetani, an Italian filmmaker who collapsed and died in London between September 7 and 14, 2022.
The theft occurred while Carter was serving in the Met's North Area Command Unit, which covers Enfield and Haringey.
Carter was dismissed from the Metropolitan Police in August 2023 after 23 years of service.
Judge Kalyani Kaul KC condemned Carter's actions, highlighting the betrayal of public trust and the disrespect shown to the victim's family.
