Former Megachurch Pastor Robert Morris Indicted on Child Sexual Abuse Charges
The Oklahoma Attorney General announced five charges against Morris for alleged abuse of a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s, following decades of accusations.
- Robert Morris, former pastor of Texas-based Gateway Church and a one-time adviser to Donald Trump, has been indicted in Oklahoma on five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child.
- The charges stem from allegations that Morris sexually abused Cindy Clemishire, who was 12 years old at the time, between 1982 and 1987 while he was a traveling preacher.
- Morris admitted to past inappropriate behavior but characterized it as limited to kissing and touching; Clemishire has accused him of more severe acts, including rape by instrumentation.
- The statute of limitations does not apply in this case because Morris was not a resident of Oklahoma during the time of the alleged abuse, according to the Oklahoma Attorney General's office.
- Morris resigned from Gateway Church in 2024 following Clemishire's public accusations, and the church has since launched an independent review of the allegations.
