Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy found not guilty of rape and attempted rape charges

Mendy was cleared of one count of rape and one count of attempted rape in a retrial at Chester Crown Court.
The jury deliberated for around three hours before reaching their verdicts.
Mendy had previously been acquitted in January of six other counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Mendy broke down in tears upon hearing the verdicts and his lawyer asked for privacy so he can rebuild his life.
The incidents were alleged to have occurred at Mendy's home in 2018 and 2020 but he maintained the encounters were consensual.
