Mahathir Accuses Current Government of Politically Motivated Selective Prosecution

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has criticized the current government's corruption probe into his son, Mirzan Mahathir, as politically motivated.
Mahathir alleges that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is using the law to target political rivals, citing the dropped charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and anti-graft agency chief Azam Baki as examples of selective prosecution.
Mirzan Mahathir and tycoon Daim Zainuddin were implicated in the Pandora Papers leak, which revealed offshore accounts held by the world's wealthiest individuals.
The anti-graft agency has ordered Mirzan to declare all his assets within 30 days and has seized a building belonging to Daim as part of its ongoing investigation.
Mahathir, who served as Prime Minister from 1981-2003 and again from 2018-2020, has a long history of political rivalry with Anwar, who took power in November 2022.
