Former labor leader John Dougherty and ex-president of Local 98, Brian Burrows, were convicted of embezzling over $600,000 from Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
This is Dougherty's second federal conviction in two years, following a guilty verdict in his 2021 bribery trial alongside former City Councilmember Bobby Henon.
Dougherty faces a third trial on extortion charges scheduled for spring, which could extend his sentence further.
Dougherty and Burrows used the embezzled funds for personal use, including home renovations, meals, concert tickets, and even a cookie tray for a relative's christening.
Both Dougherty and Burrows have vowed to appeal their convictions.
