Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Arrested in Money Laundering Case

Soren's Successor Champai Soren Chosen as New Chief Minister Amid State-Wide Protests

Hemant Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.
Soren was questioned for over seven hours before his arrest, during which he resigned as Chief Minister.
Champai Soren, a senior leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and state transport minister, has been chosen as Soren's successor.
Soren has moved the Supreme Court challenging his arrest, calling it politically motivated and an abuse of power by the ED.
Several tribal outfits in Jharkhand have called for a state-wide shutdown in protest of Soren's arrest.
