Overview
- Kwan, 54, pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to attempting to murder Patrick O’Hara by sending tainted wine through a fake “Northern Wine and Drinks Tasting Gentlemen’s Club.”
- Prosecutors said he sent between 18 and 21 bottles from September 2022 to January 2024, with two recovered bottles poisoned and evidence that a third, laced with thallium, made O’Hara ill.
- He also admitted administering a noxious substance to Torquil Gundlach, who drank a gifted bottle from the same deliveries.
- The court set 30 January for sentencing on the wine admissions, and Kwan appeared via video link from HMP Frankland.
- Kwan is already serving a life term with a minimum of 31 years for a separate 2024 attack in which he posed as a nurse and injected O’Hara with poison.
