Former England Manager Sven-Göran Eriksson Left £3.8m in Debt at Death

The Swedish coach, who passed away in August 2024 from pancreatic cancer, faced financial struggles stemming from tax debts and mismanagement.

  • Sven-Göran Eriksson, who managed England's national football team from 2001 to 2006, died with debts totaling £8.64m against assets worth £4.8m.
  • The majority of his debt—£7.25m—was owed to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in the UK, according to Swedish media reports.
  • Eriksson had previously admitted to losing £10m due to a financial adviser’s failed investments and described himself as careless with money management.
  • In 2013, Eriksson unsuccessfully sued his former financial adviser, Samir Khan, for damages after Khan was declared bankrupt, leaving Eriksson without compensation.
  • Efforts are underway to sell Eriksson's remaining assets, including a Swedish mansion valued at £1.83m, to settle his estate's debts.
