Overview

  • A DuPage County grand jury unsealed 52 additional counts on June 17, bringing Christina Formella’s total charges to 55 including criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, indecent solicitation and grooming.
  • Prosecutors allege the abuse began in January 2023 when the victim was 14 and continued through August or September 2024, involving roughly 50 encounters at the high school and at Formella’s home.
  • Judge Mia McPherson denied a state motion to detain Formella before trial but ordered her to wear a GPS ankle monitor, install monitoring software on all electronic devices and bar any contact with minors or entry to the school.
  • Assistant State’s Attorney Jaclyn McAndrew told the court that investigators uncovered hundreds of grooming text messages showing how Formella used her roles as teacher, coach and tutor to manipulate the student.
  • Formella is scheduled to return to DuPage County court on August 4, 2025, and faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
