Former Doctor Nathaniel Spencer Charged With 45 Sexual Offences Against 38 Patients

The CPS authorised charges following a complex Operation Anzu inquiry by Staffordshire Police.

Overview

  • Prosecutors list 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 of assault by penetration, nine of sexual assault of a child under 13, three of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, and one attempted assault by penetration.
  • The alleged offences date from 2017 to 2021 while Spencer worked at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.
  • Spencer, 38, of Quinton in Birmingham, is due to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 20 January 2026.
  • University Hospitals of North Midlands and The Dudley Group say they cooperated fully with police and have set up dedicated helplines for concerned patients.
  • The CPS reminds the public that proceedings are active, the defendant is presumed innocent, and reporting or online commentary must not prejudice the case.
