Former Conservative MP David Warburton Found Dead in West London at 59

Police say he was discovered at his Chelsea flat on 26 August and his death is being treated as unexpected but not suspicious.

Overview

  • Emergency services were called to Chelsea Crescent on the morning of 26 August, with the ambulance service arriving at 10:14am and police alerted at 10:47am, and next of kin were informed.
  • Warburton served as MP for Somerton and Frome from 2015 until resigning in June 2023 following suspension over allegations investigated by Parliament’s complaints scheme.
  • He publicly admitted taking cocaine after drinking strong whisky but denied sexual harassment allegations that had prompted the watchdog probe.
  • In July 2023, the Independent Expert Panel upheld parts of his appeal and ordered reinvestigation, and the House of Commons later said the investigation would no longer proceed.
  • Former colleagues said he appeared to be rebuilding his life in business after leaving politics, and he is survived by his wife, Harriet Baker-Bates, and two children.
