Former Cape Cod Rowing Coach Arrested in Bronx on Child Rape Charges

Following an October Barnstable probe, prosecutors plan to extradite the suspect to Massachusetts for criminal prosecution.

Overview

  • Barnstable police said Guy Monseair, 57, was taken into custody in the Bronx on Thursday by NYPD officers and Homeland Security Investigations agents and is being held pending extradition.
  • Authorities have charged Monseair with four counts of aggravated statutory rape of a child and one count of indecent assault and battery of a child under 14 based on alleged incidents while he coached on Cape Cod.
  • The Barnstable investigation began in October and produced an arrest warrant this week after detectives traced Monseair to the Bronx, where public profiles show he worked as head coach and executive director at City Island Rowing.
  • The Cape Cod Rowing Club said it has limited records about when Monseair was affiliated with the organization and noted it has not run a youth program in more than 12 years, while prosecutors urge anyone with information to contact investigators.
  • The Cape and Islands district attorney will prosecute the case in Massachusetts and the arrest raises questions about recordkeeping and oversight at clubs that could affect victims, witnesses, and other programs serving young athletes.
