Former Blizzard Developer Secures Decade of WoW Subscription Prior to Layoff

Microsoft's recent layoffs following Activision Blizzard acquisition leads to cancellation of Blizzard's new survival game.

  • Microsoft laid off around 1,900 employees from its gaming teams following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, including developers at Blizzard Entertainment.
  • Adam Holisky, a former Blizzard developer, used his employee perks to secure 10 years' worth of World of Warcraft subscription time before being laid off.
  • Holisky, who was the product lead at Core Technology, claimed ten 1-year subscription codes from his account, extending his subscription to October 14th, 2033.
  • Blizzard employees can get 1-year subscription codes as a perk of working at the company, allowing them to bypass the monthly fees.
  • Blizzard has also cancelled a new untitled survival game they were working on, following the layoffs.
