Former Berlin Treasurer Sentenced for Embezzling Nearly €150,000 from Garden Club

A 49-year-old woman received a suspended sentence after misappropriating funds over four years, exploiting lax financial oversight.

The Berlin Amtsgericht Tiergarten sentenced the former treasurer to one year and ten months of suspended imprisonment for embezzlement.
Between 2017 and 2021, the woman withdrew €147,610 from the garden club's account in 230 transactions for personal use.
The court ordered the confiscation of the stolen amount and mandated monthly repayments of €400 over a three-year probation period.
The mismanagement was facilitated by insufficient financial controls, including the neglect of the club’s required dual-approval system.
The defendant admitted to taking money but disputed the total amount alleged by prosecutors, citing poor bookkeeping practices at the time.
