Overview

• A special CBI court in Mohali found Paramjit Singh guilty of abducting and killing constables Surmukh Singh and Sukhwinder Singh in a staged encounter in April 1993
• The court imposed a 10-year prison term and a ₹50,000 fine on the former station house officer of Beas police station
• Inspector Dharam Singh, ASI Kashmir Singh and ASI Darbara Singh were acquitted for lack of evidence while SI Ram Lubhiya died during the trial
• The case followed a December 1995 Supreme Court order directing the CBI to probe after Majitha police falsely labelled the officers as militants and cremated their bodies as unclaimed
