Overview
- Election officials rejected the papers of Joemon (Jacob) Joseph of Kerala after finding 22 purported proposers and 22 seconders were not authorised by the MPs named.
- Several MPs, including Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Swati Maliwal, Asaduddin Owaisi and Sasmit Patra, denied signing, and one listed endorsement bore the name of jailed YSRCP MP Midhun Reddy.
- The case has been referred to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat for further administrative action.
- Following scrutiny of 68 nomination papers from 46 aspirants, only NDA nominee C P Radhakrishnan and INDIA bloc candidate B Sudarshan Reddy were declared valid.
- Members of both Houses will vote by secret ballot using the single transferable vote on September 9, with counting the same day, to fill the vacancy created by Jagdeep Dhankhar’s July 21 resignation.
