Foreign Office Tightens Travel Restrictions in Tunisia, Lifts Chemtou Ban

The advisory expands no-go zones along Tunisia’s borders with Algeria and Libya following a rise in cross-border violence.

Overview

  • The Foreign Office advises against all travel to Chaambi Mountains National Park and the military operation zones of Mount Salloum, Mount Sammamma, and Mount Mghila due to security concerns.
  • It also advises against all travel to the militarised zone south of El Borma and Dhehiba, within 20 km of the Tunisia-Libya border north of Dhehiba, and the town of Ben Guerdane with its immediate surroundings.
  • All but essential travel is barred within 20 km of the Tunisia-Algeria border in El Kef and Jendouba governorates.
  • The FCDO has lifted its previous warning for the Chemtou archaeological site following security assessments.
  • The department warns of a high global terrorist threat to British nationals and urges vigilance at all times.
