Overview

  • The recall covers 850,318 Ford and Lincoln vehicles from 14 model lines, including F-150 and Mustang models, Broncos, Explorers, Super Duty trucks and select Expeditions, Navigators and Aviators.
  • An NHTSA report traced the defect to internal contamination in low-pressure fuel pumps after supplier design changes in June 2021, which can increase friction and lead to pump failure.
  • Failing fuel pumps may cause loss of fuel pressure and unexpected engine stalls, heightening crash risk in warm weather or low-fuel conditions with early warnings such as misfires or check engine lights.
  • Ford will mail initial safety notices on July 14; a second notice will follow when a repair solution is finalized but no timeline for the remedy has been set.
  • The automaker received six consumer complaints related to the pump issue, estimates that about 10 percent of recalled vehicles may exhibit the flaw and reports no accidents or injuries to date.
