Overview

  • The recall affects certain 2021–2024 Bronco Sport and 2020–2022 Escape vehicles equipped with 1.5-liter engines, covering more than 694,000 SUVs across the United States.
  • Ford identified cracked fuel injectors that can leak onto hot engine components and increase under-hood fire risk, with eight fires linked to the defect but no injuries reported.
  • Dealers will install engine control software updates at no cost to detect leaks, disable the high-pressure fuel pump and reduce engine power until a mechanical remedy is validated.
  • Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on August 18 with instructions for scheduling the software update and details on the forthcoming permanent fix.
  • The automaker’s field review committee has studied the issue since 2022 and examined corrosion as a potential cause earlier this year while working with NHTSA on a lasting hardware solution.
