Ford Recalls 355,000 F-Series Trucks and 499,000 Edge, Lincoln MKX SUVs Over Safety Defects

An over-the-air update fixes blank displays on newer trucks now, whereas a brake‑hose remedy for older SUVs is still being developed for service next spring.

Overview

  • NHTSA postings detail two large recalls: 355,656 2025–2026 F-Series pickups for an instrument cluster that can boot to a blank screen and 499,129 2015–2018 Ford Edge and 2016–2018 Lincoln MKX SUVs for rear brake hoses that can rupture and leak fluid.
  • Ford will deploy a free software update for the trucks via dealers or over the air that disables a memory-protection feature implicated in a narrow CAN wakeup timing fault; digital clusters were supplied by Visteon.
  • SUV owners will receive mailed notices Sept. 8–12, with Ford still developing a mechanical repair and targeting availability in spring 2026; the company estimates about 1% of SUVs may have the defect.
  • Owner notifications for the truck recall begin Sept. 2, and dealers were instructed not to demonstrate or deliver affected new vehicles until the instrument cluster update is applied.
  • Ford reports about 95 warranty claims tied to the truck issue and 64 warranty claims plus additional complaints for the SUV brake concern, with no confirmed crashes or injuries; the actions add to a record recall year in which Ford leads all automakers.
