Overview
- The recall covers 2024–2026 model year Mustangs built between Sept. 7, 2022, and June 9, 2026, and is logged with NHTSA as recall 26C40.
- Federal filings say hardened adhesive from heat-shrink tubing can prevent ground eyelets from sitting flush, which lets them bend during assembly and then fracture from engine vibration.
- A fractured ground eyelet can interrupt the electrical ground and lead to loss of drive power or failure of headlights, windshield washer, engine cooling fan, or air conditioning.
- Dealers were notified of the recall on Aug. 28 and interim owner letters began mailing Aug. 31–Sept. 4; Ford will replace the engine-compartment ground terminals free of charge but the redesigned replacement parts are not expected to be widely available until about March 2027.
- Ford told regulators it has seen eight related warranty claims and no crashes or injuries so far, NHTSA estimates about 1% of the recalled cars may actually have the defect, and owners can check their VIN on the NHTSA site or contact Ford for updates.
