Ford Recalls 1.45 Million U.S. Vehicles Over Rearview Camera Malfunctions

The action expands an earlier campaign after years of NHTSA scrutiny of Ford’s camera failures.

Overview

  • Coverage includes more than 50 Ford and Lincoln models from 2015–2019, such as Edge, Expedition, F-250, Mustang, Ranger and Lincoln Navigator.
  • Cameras can display blank, distorted or inverted images when reversing, degrading rear visibility and raising crash risk.
  • About 1.9 million vehicles are affected globally, including 122,000 in Canada and roughly 300,000 in other markets.
  • Owners can check eligibility now via the federal VIN database; mailed notices begin Sept. 22, with free dealer inspections and replacements.
  • Ford reports 44,123 warranty claims and 18 accidents linked to the defect with no known injuries, and supplier Magna has issued a separate recall of more than 250,000 cameras.
