Ford Opens $1.2 Billion Dearborn Headquarters, Ending 70 Years at the Glass House

The new campus unites core teams to speed product development through closer collaboration.

Overview

  • The 2.1-million-square-foot complex stands on the former 1953 Product Development Center site and is roughly twice the size of the prior headquarters.
  • Engineering, design and technology groups are now colocated, with Ford Land chief Jim Dobleske citing natural light, walkability and cross‑functional seating.
  • Ford says the layout will cut material movement time by more than 80% and place about 14,000 employees within a 15‑minute walk.
  • Amenities include a 160,000‑square‑foot food hall led by Executive Chef Grant Vella, 12 acres of green space, five courtyards and wellness areas.
  • WXYZ reports the Glass House will be demolished following the move, while onsite staffing will phase in through 2027 for roughly 4,000 employees.
