Overview
- On August 5, Ford filed a trademark for Ranchero covering electric passenger cars, pickups, SUVs and related parts, fueling speculation that the nameplate will return on its next midsize EV pickup.
- The Blue Oval is set to unveil its new modular, unibody EV architecture on August 11 in Kentucky and could preview the Ranchero nameplate there.
- Developed by Ford’s skunkworks design center in Long Beach, the pickup is expected to blend car-like styling with utility reminiscent of the 1957–1979 Ranchero.
- The unibody architecture is aimed at reducing costs with smaller batteries and streamlined assembly to position the truck as a value-focused alternative to pricier EV pickups.
- The Ranchero EV is expected to arrive in 2027 as the first model on Ford’s new affordable EV architecture to boost volume and narrow the gap with GM, Tesla and Chinese rivals.
