Overview
- NS confirmed that no trains ran between 04:00 and 08:00 on Wednesday morning because of an FNV-organised strike.
- After 08:00 NS began a phased restart but warned services could remain delayed and run on altered schedules through the late morning.
- NS said it cannot provide nationwide replacement buses because there are not enough vehicles available, and it will not reimburse passengers because staff are not striking for the full day.
- Bus, tram and metro staff also joined actions with regional operators reporting staggered resumptions—RET and GVB restarting after 08:00 and Arriva expecting service from about 08:30—while some reserved international services such as the Airportsprinter and Eurostar continue to run.
- The transport stoppage follows failed talks with the cabinet over proposed social-security cuts and forms part of a wider week of union actions, which could prolong disruptions for commuters and increase pressure on ministers to change course.
