FMCG Firms Pass GST 2.0 Cuts With Odd MRPs, Extra Grammage as Round Price Points Set to Return Within Two Months

Executives say the interim pricing reflects packaging and mould lead times rather than a lasting shift in strategy.

Overview

  • Parle and Dabur temporarily cut sticker prices on fixed-price packs, with Parle G moving from Rs 5 to about Rs 4.45 and some shampoo sachets from Rs 2 to around Rs 1.75.
  • Hindustan Unilever is keeping Re 1 to Rs 20 packs at their usual prices by increasing weight or volume to pass on the tax savings.
  • Parle’s Mayank Shah said wrapper and mould changes need roughly 1.5–2 months, after which companies plan to restore the familiar price points with higher grammage.
  • Analyst Abneesh Roy expects the non-standard MRPs to be short-lived and forecasts a return to Rs 2, Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 20 packs with extra quantity.
  • Dabur detailed lower MRPs on low-unit packs—Re 1 to about 90–94 paise, Rs 10 to Rs 9, and Rs 20 to Rs 18—while noting rising UPI usage eases coinage constraints for some buyers.
