Flyers Honor Bernie Parent With Player of the Game Mask and Season-Long Tributes

The honors follow Parent's Sept. 21 death at 80, extending his presence from the ice to the locker room.

Overview

  • Before the home opener, the Flyers ran a video tribute and, at PA announcer Lou Nolan’s request, fans delivered a standing ovation as “Bernie” chants filled Xfinity Mobile Arena.
  • The team introduced a replica Bernie Parent goalie mask as its new player of the game award, with captain Sean Couturier unveiling and presenting it in the locker room.
  • Goaltender Dan Vladar received the first mask after a 5–2 win over the two-time defending champion Florida Panthers, marking the Flyers’ first victory of the season and Rick Tocchet’s first as head coach.
  • Season-long visual tributes include a No. 1 shoulder patch on jerseys and Parent’s retired number painted behind both nets.
  • The Flyers set a public celebration of life for Nov. 21 at Xfinity Mobile Arena and a family ceremonial puck drop on Nov. 22 against the Devils.
