Flu and RSV Climb in UK as UKHSA Tells People Who Feel Unwell to Stay Home

UK data showing recent increases has prompted renewed warnings about infant red‑flag symptoms.

  • For the week of November 24–30, flu positivity rose to 17.1% from 11.6% and RSV to 10% from 8.7%, according to UKHSA.
  • Hospital admissions increased, and emergency department attendances for acute bronchiolitis also rose in the same period.
  • UKHSA urged people with respiratory symptoms and a fever or who feel too unwell for normal activities to stay at home and reduce contact, with additional advice on vaccination, ventilation, hygiene, cleaning and mask use.
  • NHS doctor Suraj Kukadia advised that a baby who has not urinated for 12 hours, or is peeing less than half their normal amount, should be taken to A&E.
  • The NHS highlights emergency signs including breathing difficulty, pauses in breathing, blue-tinged lips or skin, or lethargy, and offers free RSV vaccination to eligible pregnant people and older adults.
