Flowerdale Farm Recalls Eight Alfalfa Sprout Varieties in Salmonella Investigation
Regulators are probing links to a national outbreak that has sickened at least 44 people.
Overview
- Flowerdale Farm withdrew eight alfalfa sprout products sold in Victorian fruit and vegetable shops, covering all use-by dates up to and including November 20, 2025.
- An earlier recall by Parilla Fresh removed multiple alfalfa lines supplied to Coles, Woolworths, IGA and independent grocers across NSW, Queensland, Victoria, the Northern Territory, the ACT and South Australia.
- Health authorities report at least 44 infections tied to an unusual Salmonella strain, including 18 in NSW, 15 in Queensland, nine in Victoria and two in South Australia.
- FSANZ and state agencies, alongside the NSW Department of Primary Industries, are conducting a joint investigation and continue to update public warnings and recall notices.
- Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled sprouts, to return them for a refund, and to seek medical advice if symptoms such as fever, stomach cramps or diarrhoea develop within 6 to 72 hours, with higher risk for infants, older adults and immunocompromised people.
