Overview

• Copeland was booked on Aug. 5 on one count of child neglect, three counts of felony animal neglect and four counts of misdemeanor animal neglect and is held on $36,000 bond at Putnam County Jail.
• Deputies found seven dogs living among layers of feces and debris without food or water, including two confined in a bedroom covered by four inches of waste.
• The investigation began when an out-of-state relative requested a welfare check and a second family member provided video footage of dog abuse that spurred deputies to reenter the home.
• Sheriff H.D. DeLoach labeled Copeland’s actions as deliberate cruelty toward both her child and the animals she abandoned.
• The seven dogs were surrendered to Putnam County Animal Services and are now undergoing rehabilitation before becoming available for adoption.
