Overview
- Florida announced the redesign at a Florida Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will begin issuing the new cards at service centers statewide on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
- Online ordering for the new design through the state's MyDMVPortal is expected to be available by early November.
- The front of the card features Castillo de San Marcos, an orange used as the “O” in Florida, and a manatee while the back shows Space Shuttle Discovery and the motto “Let Us Alone.”
- The update adds specific security and operational elements, including the state seal as an anti-fraud measure, a 'Temporary Non-Domiciled' mark for certain commercial credentials, and new on-card designations for veterans, organ donors, lifetime hunting and fishing licenses, and disability indicators.
- Existing licenses and ID cards remain valid until their normal expiration dates and will be phased out over time as residents renew or replace credentials, building on earlier redesigns that Florida says nearly doubled fraud protections.
