Florida Teens Charged With First-Degree Murder in Killing of 14-Year-Old Danika Troy

Prosecutors say a grand jury will decide whether the 16- and 14-year-old suspects are tried as adults.

Overview

  • Gabriel Williams, 16, and Kimahri Blevins, 14, were arrested on Dec. 4 and are being held in the Department of Juvenile Justice on premeditated first-degree murder charges.
  • A passerby found Danika Troy’s burned, bullet-riddled body on Dec. 2 in a wooded area off Kimberly Road, where investigators recovered her black-and-red scooter and 9 mm casings.
  • Sheriff Bob Johnson said Williams stole his mother’s handgun and allegedly admitted to shooting Troy, while investigators say the motive remains unresolved.
  • A cooperating witness told detectives the teens planned the attack, intending a single shot before the 16-year-old fired multiple times and the body was set on fire, according to the sheriff’s office report.
  • Authorities say the victim and suspects knew each other from school, the district has offered counseling, and investigators continue gathering forensic evidence as the case moves forward.
