Florida State Football Hit with Two-Year Probation for NIL Violations
Offensive Coordinator Alex Atkins Suspended for Three Games, School Fined $5,000 Plus 1% of Football Budget
- Florida State University's football program has been hit with a two-year probation by the NCAA for violating rules on using name, image and likeness (NIL) offers as a recruiting inducement.
- The Seminoles' offensive coordinator, Alex Atkins, has been suspended for the first three games of the 2024 season and given a two-year show-cause order.
- The violations involved Atkins facilitating a meeting between a transfer prospect and a booster, who offered the prospect an NIL deal worth $15,000 per month.
- The NCAA also imposed a $5,000 fine plus 1% of the football budget on FSU, and a reduction of five scholarships over two years.
- This is the first time the NCAA has punished a school for using NIL as a recruiting inducement.
