John Passidomo, aged 72, died following a hiking accident in Utah's Bryce Canyon National Park.
He and his wife, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, were vacationing and celebrating decades of shared adventures.
The couple, who were law school sweethearts, were about to mark their 45th wedding anniversary.
Their three daughters joined him at a regional trauma center, where he was pronounced unable to survive the injuries.
The Florida Legislature, where Kathleen Passidomo serves as Senate President, concluded its session on March 8.
