Florida Sees 13% Decline in Abortions Following Six-Week Ban

New state data reveals significant impact of recent abortion legislation enacted in May.

Abortions in Florida decreased from over 51,000 in early September 2022 and 2023 to 44,771 in 2024.
The six-week abortion limit, effective since May 1, contributed to the decline in reported procedures.
The state also saw a reduction in out-of-state residents seeking abortions, dropping from 4,656 in 2023 to 3,247 this year.
Governor Ron DeSantis and the Republican-controlled Legislature approved the six-week limit after a Florida Supreme Court ruling.
A November ballot measure will determine if abortion rights will be enshrined in the Florida Constitution.
