Florida Schools Report Record Gains with 71% Earning Top Grades

Gains driven by progress-monitoring assessments reflect Florida’s rebound from pandemic-era learning losses.

Overview

  • Seventy-one percent of public schools received A or B grades in 2024-25, up from 64 percent a year earlier.
  • Twenty-eight of the state’s 67 school districts earned A ratings, up from 22, with Duval and Lake counties achieving their first As.
  • Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade County districts maintained A grades, Orange and Seminole held As, and Osceola remained at B.
  • Out of more than 3,450 graded schools, 227 more institutions earned As and there were 48 fewer Ds compared to the prior year.
  • Florida’s A-to-F grades are based on Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) exams introduced in 2023, which provide three progress-monitoring assessments each year.
