- Attorney General James Uthmeier announced Wednesday that 5.67 million Grade A eggs — 472,500 dozen delivered as 21 truckloads — have been received by Feeding Florida’s nine affiliates and distributed across all 67 counties.
- The donation is part of a nationwide remedy from a U.S. Department of Justice investigation joined by 17 state attorneys general that examined whether daily price quotations published by Urner Barry were manipulated by some egg producers.
- Under the settlement producers will donate 53 million eggs nationwide and pay a combined $3.3 million, with Florida also due roughly $348,490 for antitrust enforcement and consumer protection.
- Cal‑Maine Foods supplied Florida’s allocation and producers were required to cover packaging, storage, freight, handling and delivery costs so the eggs reached food banks and partner agencies at no cost to households or taxpayers.
- The agreement puts five years of enforceable rules in place that require business‑grounded bidding and trading, designated antitrust compliance officers, and government inspection and interview rights to reduce the risk of future price manipulation.
