Overview

• At about 2:03 a.m. Wednesday in Southeast Cape Coral, a security alert led neighbor Kyle Myvett to confront a man in his neighbor’s garage while wearing Batman pajamas.
• Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Justin Schimpl, who is known to law enforcement from prior investigations.
• Officers said items taken from vehicles and a garage were recovered, including two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, cash, a wristlet and more than $500 in gift cards.
• Schimpl faces two counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling and two counts of petit theft under $750.
• He claimed an accomplice, but helicopter and K9 searches found no other suspect, and jail records list a first court appearance on Sept. 29.
