• Officers responding around 2:03 a.m. Wednesday in Southeast Cape Coral found the suspect already restrained by neighbor Kyle Myvett after a security camera alert.
• Police identified the suspect as Justin Schimpl, 20, and charged him with two counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, two counts of petit theft under $750, and one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling.
• Investigators say multiple vehicles were hit and items recovered included two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, cash, a woman’s wristlet, and more than $500 in gift cards.
• Myvett, who previously worked in corrections, told local media his training helped him safely hold the suspect until officers arrived, and police publicly praised his actions.
• Schimpl claimed an accomplice, but a helicopter and K-9 search found no other suspects, and jail records list a first court appearance on September 29.
