Florida Man Sentenced to Two Years for Threatening Rep. Eric Swalwell and His Family

Michael Shapiro, 73, left multiple threatening voicemails accusing the congressman of espionage and using racial slurs.

Shapiro targeted Rep. Swalwell with five expletive-filled voicemails in December 2023.
The threats included promises to kill Swalwell and his children, as well as racial insults.
Shapiro claimed the calls were made during a drunken episode, but he has a history of similar threats.
Authorities traced the threatening calls to Shapiro's home, leading to his January arrest.
The House Ethics Committee had previously investigated Swalwell's ties to a suspected Chinese spy but took no action.
