Florida Man Charged With Home Invasion After MMA Trainee Stops Intruder in Wilton Manors

Police say the 31-year-old told officers he walked into the wrong house after a night of drinking.

Overview

  • On Sept. 27, Henny Rojas was staying at his sister’s Wilton Manors home when his teenage nephew woke him to report a stranger in the living room.
  • Rojas, who has trained in mixed martial arts for about three years, said he used only his hands to confront the intruder and protect his family.
  • Wilton Manors police say the suspect, Austin Caresani, fled before officers arrived but was quickly found and arrested nearby, and his booking photo shows visible bruising and cuts.
  • A judge charged Caresani with home invasion, set bond at $20,000, and ordered him to stay away from the family home; he remains in Broward County custody.
  • According to the police report, Caresani said he had been drinking at a nearby club and mistakenly entered the residence, while the family says they do not know him.
